2024 IMPACT REPORT
December 1, 2024
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
The “SOME PEOPLE” 2024 Year-End Giving campaign begins today and will run through December 31st. As the end of 2024 approaches, I’ve been reflecting on the impact of our work. I hear from parents, patients, business owners and medical professionals everyday expressing their yearning for a new approach to, and model of, healthcare in the United States of America.
The parent who can’t afford an inhaler or insulin for their child; the business owner who can no longer afford Commercial Health Insurance for her staff; the medical residents and nurses in our streets uniting to push back on Harm-for-Profit; whistleblowers calling to report how patients are being harmed by the practices of the Commercial Health Insurance industry; the adult children with aging parents in Long Term Care Facilities who are expressing fears after Private Equity management cut staff and resources; the mental health clinic owners nationwide who have been financially devastated by the practices and tactics of UnitedHealth Group; the pharmacist who finally breaks after seeing so many senior citizens in her community who cannot afford their medication; and the EMT fighting for Single Payer reform.
This daily reach out reminds me of the power of every voice to change legislation, policies, behaviors and practices in the name of betterment, equality and Public Health:
2024 Impact:
-
We placed key investigative reporting journalism features exposing White Collar Healthcare Crime in major papers of record including Wall Street Journal, Minnesota Public Radio (MPR News); Bloomberg News; The Oregonian; KFF News, STAT News, Arm and a Leg podcast and others. The work directly resulted in a class action lawsuit against United Healthcare by medical professionals in Minnesota.
-
We launched UpCode, a network of highly-skilled veteran investigative journalists and lawyers working together to support whistleblowers who choose to report Harm-for-Profit, Denial of Care and White-Collar Healthcare Crime.
-
We executed a high-impact social media Public Service Announcement (PSA) campaign called “What’s Next Andrew Witty?” educating mass market viewers about the Denial of Care business model and UnitedHealth Group’s ongoing White Collar Healthcare Crime. The campaign reached millions of people on TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, X and Facebook over the course of three months.
-
We continued publishing THE FINE PRINT Health Humanities Magazine featuring analysis, commentary, essays, guest writers, news alerts, event news and interviews with multidisciplinary professionals discussing their views on the best ways to improve Public Health. The magazine and live events now reach audiences in 13 countries internationally.

-
We published HOLD THE DOOR OPEN, a series about disabled persons and their recommendations for a healthier society. The series garnered international attention from advocacy groups, commercial sponsors of the Paralympic Games and others.
-
We continued producing THE FINE PRINT Forum—the live talk show—amplifying and elevating conversations with journalists, artists, medical professionals, lawyers, authors and others discussing Best Practice, Quality of Care, Do No Harm Business Ethics, Ending Fear of Reprisal, Patient Safety and White-Collar Healthcare Crime accountability.
-
Our work was featured in multiple articles, podcasts and Op-eds including KFF News; Chicago Health Magazine, The Rush Hour; CodeWack; WTIP North Shore Community Radio and others.

The most widely-read article in THE FINE PRINT Health Humanities Magazine in 2024 was written by Dr. Linda Peeno. An excerpt follows:

“The demands of life and work will grind away at ideals and values. Few of us knowingly sell our souls, but we do. Our spirits can be leached away by fatigue, escape, apathy, or retribution. How can we survive, much less surmount, the needs to make a difference and try to change systems? None of us can elude judgments about right and wrong. In an entangled complex world, it isn’t often so clear cut. Even harder will be making choices and living with them. Our actions—and inactions—can either harm or help another person. Few ethics classes address how we are to be ethical in unethical systems, or how we bear the consequences of our ethical choices… Our bodies should not be for sale or traded on Wall Street and our health should not be decided by investment firms and Private Equity quants. Our very lives—and those we love—depend upon it.”
